With NHS dentists hard to find, local people are rightly concerned about their mouth health. But there might be an alternative. In her regular series of columns, Sarah-Joy Lendon, the Bristol-based ‘Virtual Hygienist’, offers tips on how you can take steps yourself to reduce your need to visit the dentist
As these articles begin reaching a wider audience, I thought this month would be the perfect
opportunity to introduce myself and explain what The Virtual Hygienist is all about.
I’m Sarah-Joy Lendon, a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist with a passion for helping
people understand their mouths and feel empowered to take control of their oral health.
Throughout my career, I’ve noticed that many people leave dental appointments with
unanswered questions. They may have been told they have bleeding or receding gums, gum
disease, tooth wear, or a high risk of tooth decay, but don’t fully understand what it means
or what they can do about it.
That’s where The Virtual Hygienist comes in.
My aim is to make oral health information simple, accessible, and easy to apply in everyday
life, empowering you to take control of your own smile. Whether it’s understanding how to
care for your gums, navigating the changes that come with midlife and menopause, or
learning how oral health connects to overall wellbeing, my goal is to help people feel
informed rather than overwhelmed, away from the dental surgery and in the comfort of
their own home.
Because a healthy smile is about so much more than teeth. It’s about confidence, health,
wellbeing, and living life with a smile that shines from the inside out.
