Reviewed! Seth Lakeman at St George’s

Seth Lakeman kickstarted his UK tour with a stellar performance to a packed-out St George’s, Bristol, last night (19 February).

The tour follows off the back of his latest album, The Granite Way, which was written and produced by himself. Just released on 14 February, the songs are steeped in Devon and West Country folklore.

Seth opened the show with Louisa – a sea-shantyesque song from his newly released album, The Granite Way.

The music was infectious with tunes ranging from almost barn-dance-ready numbers to powerful and emotional songs with Celtic tones.

The hauntingly beautiful Roll Away The Years, a song about the loss of a fisherman father, had us all holding on to every note – a truly evocative and mesmerising song.

Everyone was up on their feet for a toe-tapping encore – a brilliant evening in a beautiful, intimate setting.

Seth Lakeman has toured all over the world and, back in 2005, he received a Mercury nomination for his album Kitty Jay, which propelled him into the mainstream. He has collaborated and played with some of the best artists including Van Morrison, Robert Plant and Tori Amos.
