This show was a riot of silliness and panto classics from start to finish.
Mother Goose tells the story of a poor but happily married couple who run an animal shelter in a dilapidated store. Their fortunes change when they rescue a goose which lays golden eggs bringing wealth and security to their family. However, tempted by an evil fairy Mother Goose seeks fame as well as fortune and so trades her goose Cilla, for international stardom.
Realising the error of her ways, Mother Goose seeks to right the wrongs with the help of her husband Victor, played by Gabriel Fleary and son Jack played by Jack Conlon-Morrey , along with a venery of creatures in the very magical Gooseland but can she do it?
This show was a traditional style panto (oh no it isn’t!) aimed at young children with hilarious innuendos for the adults. Some very funny moments include hysterical cake making, brilliant group dance numbers, excellent celebrity take offs and lovely audience participation.
Sir Ian Mckellan, as Mother Goose, was obviously a star playing his part brilliantly, bringing warmth and fun as a classically crude pantomime Dame with obvious love for the role shining through.
Other standout performances were from The King of Gooseland, played by Adam Brown and Camilla, played by Genevieve Nicole for their brilliant audience interactions and comedy strength. The goose herself Cilla, played by Anna-Jane Casey had a superb voice, really adding to the whole atmosphere, along with Vic needing a mention for his great work, and Bat, played by Richard Leeming for his funny quips which kept us laughing.
One final mention is the brilliant BSL interpreter, who did a wonderful job without distracting but brought an additional bonus character to the show.
The show was truly enjoyed by all, with regular and exciting audience interaction which had everyone roaring with laughter and dancing in their seats for the finale.
