Getting through a tough patch
Let’s face it we’ve all been there, after the hussle and bussle of a frantic Christmas- What’s next?: January.
It begins with a literal bang! (Of fireworks) and a few optimistic resolutions to keep spirits lifted, but what do we find a week later? The emotionally and physically cold month where the only thing that seems to be lifted is the prices and this leads onto that oh so familiar tough day – Blue Monday (23rd January)

Statistically, it is believed Blue Monday is the toughest day of the year in the UK. Many people claim to feel more isolated and under financial burdens at this time as the credit card bills come in, and it’s still not pay day!
Blue Monday feelings can affect anyone at any time, but does it always have to be so bleak?
The definitive answer is no.

There is help available but more importantly, there are ways to help yourself: simple exercise or walking in one of our beautiful green spaces, or upping your self-care at home with childhood classics like Paddington 2 and Tangled. Maybe you’d prefer the goofy, slapstick brilliance of Jim Carrey in Liar Liar or Ace Ventura.

Many mental health practitioners are just a phone call away-and for those who “don’t like talking about it”, there are several apps which only involves you such as Mind and Silvercloud.
These apps contain various resources on how to better your mental health such as journals to analysing your day, multiple activity suggestions and mindfulness videos.
As the old saying goes: “If the story is not right, it means the story simply isn’t finished yet” the same goes for all stories of life, even during the toughest of times.
If you are in need of any support or just need someone to chat to this January; call the Samaritans at 116 123 or for financial assistance you may visit the Citizen’s Advice in Bristol, 48 Fairfax Street, Bristol BS1 3BL or by calling 0808 278 7957 . Make sure you have yourself a Happy New Year!
