Last night’s performance of Mamma Mia! at the Bristol Hippodrome was a fast-paced, funny, and feel-good delight that had the audience smiling from start to finish. The energy never dipped, and it was clear from the opening number that this production knows exactly how to please its fan base — and then some.
Both Donna (Jenn Griffin) and Sam (Luke Jasztal) gave outstanding performances, with powerful vocals and genuine emotion that brought real depth to their characters. Their chemistry was heartfelt and believable, perfectly capturing the story’s mix of nostalgia and romance. Rosie (Rosie Glossop) was another standout — her comedic timing and charm lit up the stage, adding plenty of laughter to the evening.
The set may be simple, but it’s used cleverly and effectively, allowing the focus to remain on the music, the story, and the sheer joy of the show. By the end, the atmosphere was electric, with the whole theatre on its feet and dancing during the lively encores.
If you’re a fan of Mamma Mia! — and even if you’ve seen it before — this production is well worth another visit. In a world that can feel heavy at times, spending a night basking in ABBA’s timeless tunes and infectious positivity is a wonderful way to lift your spirits. You won’t be disappointed.
