What happens at 2:22?

2:22 – A Ghost Story has been making waves since its debut, and its stop at the Bristol Hippodrome shows exactly why. This is a play that blends spooky tension with sharp, funny dialogue, keeping the audience hooked from start to finish.

The story follows Jenny (Stacey Dooley), who’s convinced her new house is haunted, and her husband Sam (Kevin Clifton), who insists there’s a logical explanation. When friends Ben (Grant Kilburn) and Lauren (Shvorne Marks) join them for a late-night dinner party, the conversation turns into a battle of belief versus scepticism—punctuated by strange noises, flickering lights, and more than a few jump scares.

What makes the show work so well is the balance. Just when the tension builds too high, a line of humour cuts through. The four actors bring great chemistry, making the arguments feel natural and the lighter moments genuinely funny. The sound and lighting effects are impressively sharp too—more than a few audience members jumped out of their seats.

And then there’s the twist. Without kspoiling anything, it landed with a collective gasp across the theatre, sending people out still talking about what they’d seen.

At around two hours, it’s a tight, fast-paced evening that delivers scares, laughs and plenty of debate. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, 2:22 is an entertaining and spine-tingling night out.

On stage at the Bristol Hippodrome until August 23rd. Tickets from £15
