The plans aim to make the playing fields more accessible, sustainable, and inclusive.

The Robins Foundation have partnered with Mendip Broadwalk Football Club to work towards bettering FilwoodPlaying Fields. The groups both share a common goal to protect the green space and ensure it remains a thriving hub for sport, learning, and connection for future generations. Both groups deliver football sessions on the current site, but due to weather conditions and a lack of quality facilities in the area, sessions are often relocated to other nearby communities. Through improving infrastructure and access, they aim to increase parking and build changing rooms and classrooms, including a new café and clubhouse. It will also feature a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) as part of Bristol City Council’s Levelling-Up fund.

“Filwood Playing Fields has long been a vital space for grassroots sport and community activity, but for years, there has been a lack of investment in the Filwood area. With 2000+ houses being built in surrounding areas, there has never been a greater need for this level of facility. This development is about safeguarding the site’s future and creating a sustainable, inclusive and welcoming space for everyone in the local area. We aim to better meet the needs of young people, families, and community groups who rely on this space”, said a spokesperson for the Robins Foundation.
The Robins Foundation held a public engagement of the plans on the 16th of July to create a space reflecting community needs and aspirations. “We’re hopeful that the local community will feel empowered by the opportunity to shape the future of Filwood. Early feedback has been very positive and just highlights local people’s appetite for positive change”.
