Find out about a local study which is part of the development of the Greater Bedminster Urban Nature Reserve that has identified over 150 moths in Bedminster
The BS3 Wildlife Group and the Friends of Gores Marsh Park have been working together to identify moths living in central Bedminster. This is part of the development of the Greater Bedminster Urban Nature Reserve.
Moths are an important insect group that pollinates our flowers and other plants and provides food for birds, bats and other creatures. They tend to be overlooked because most of them fly after dark. Nevertheless, many are as beautiful as their day-flying cousins, the butterflies.
During 2024, a moth trap was deployed in gardens around Gores Marsh and over 150 species were identified. Many were photographed before being released.
Charlie Tallis, a Bedminster resident who coordinated this project, will lead a discussion describing the project and sharing the pictures on Tuesday, 29 October at the Bristol Beer Factory (back room), North Street from 7pm. Everybody is welcome to join us.
