If you didn’t manage to make it to the School Assembly Bangers event last night at St Aldhelm’s Church, in South Bristol – then you missed a brilliant night out!
With a variety of school uniforms seen around the room, we settled in to our seats, (in my familiar school territory being in the back row) and waited for Mr Kean to start assembly.
From start to finish, the evening was a giggle. With Reverend and Mr Kean (pictured above) staying in character all evening, handing out stickers for participation and praise for top singing – the table right at the front even getting to go first for dinner because they sang so nicely!!
Every song was greeted with a cheer and murmurs of reminiscing around the room before enthusiastic singing began.
Classics from ‘Come Praise’ such as ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’, ‘When I needed a neighbour’ and ‘Lord of the Dance’ echoed around the beautiful building with real gusto.
Half way through Salt and Malt fish and chips were provided as a delicious treat, followed by the classic school cake and custard.
Reverend Jacqui Kean, of St Aldhelm’s and St Paul’s, Southville, led a brief Harvest assembly, giving an explanation of the fantastic work of Foodbank – whom the profits from the evening were going to – and how harvest is an important part of life, with student participation of course.
The second half followed with plenty more rousing assembly classics bringing smiles to faces all around, and even an encore was demanded with another round of ‘Shine, Jesus, Shine’.
It was an unusual but fun evening – congratulations to all those involved with the organisation including Reverend Kean and Reverend Megan Barrick. We can’t wait for a potential Christmas edition!!
