An Officer and A Gentleman Review

“An Officer and a Gentleman at the Bristol Hippodrome delivers an enjoyable evening of nostalgia and romance, telling the classic story of Zack Mayo, a young man with a troubled past who enrolls in Navy Officer Training School. As Zack navigates the grueling demands of the program under the tough guidance of Sergeant Foley, he finds himself falling for local factory worker Paula Pokrifki, leading to a journey of love, friendship, and personal growth.

While the production has some pacing issues and the set feels a bit basic, the performances by the male leads truly stand out. Their powerful voices bring incredible depth to the classic songs, especially in the emotional moments.

The chorus also deserves praise for their strong support, providing a rich, harmonious backdrop that enhances the overall musical experience.

The chemistry between the cast is good, but it’s the vocal performances from the men that really elevate this adaptation. If you’re a fan of the original film or just love a good musical with strong vocal talent, this show is worth seeing.”
