Sister Act – a fun-filled evening filled with great singers, catchy songs and fabulous costumes
Sister Act The Musical is a sparkling tribute to the power of unlikely friendships, sisterhood and music telling the chaotic tale of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.
Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the close watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices and bring joy to the world. Sister Act features original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted).
Having seen the original movie, I was pleasantly surprised when a few non-singing characters burst into song with real gusto. Chief Eddie Souther, played by Clive Rowe, gave real energy to his role with a well deserved standing ovation for his disco performance and beautiful voice.
The villain of the show, Curtis Jackson, played by Jeremy Secomb, also treated us to an excellent vocal rendition in the first act of ‘When I find my baby’.
As usual, Lesley Joseph brings real comedy and fun to her performance but this time it came with a great voice as well – a lovely treat to hear.
Glitzy costumes, colourful sets and enjoyable choreography all added to make this show a definite one to see.
Sister Act The Musical is at the Bristol Hippodrome 6 Mar 2023 – 18 Mar 2023 Tickets from £13.
